Fall 2013

A political history of Latin America between 1780 and 1830, exploring how empires in the region transformed during the Age of Revolutions. Through the lens of race, we study the ways in which different social groups actively engaged the process of political change in these years, as well as their involvement with the ideas of the age such as freedom and citizenship. We discuss how this multiplicity of interests impacted nation-state formation.
