W 3.00-5.00 S 24
Fall 2012

3 credits. This course focuses on fundamental aspects of risk, using environmental and health risks in the public and private sectors as its primary examples, and is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of the value of risk assessment and risk management (RA/RM) in the environmental engineering profession. Students learn how to identify potential hazards, quantify associated risks using probabilistic methods, and incorporate both probabilistic and deterministic results from environmental risk assessment (ERA) into the decision-making process after taking into consideration risk trade-offs and societal, environmental, and economic consequences. Students learn how to apply methods and tools for qualitative and quantitative risk assessment (QLRA and QRA).
