Readings in Latina/o Studies
Albert Laguna
W 3.30-5.20 HGS 117
Spring 2016

This course introduces students to Latina/a Studies through readings of key texts that have shaped it and more recent contributions that point to the future of the field. Thoroughly interdisciplinary, we will consider texts from a number of academic perspectives including political science, literary studies, performance studies, and cultural studies, among others. The variety of disciplinary approaches considered will help students develop a clearer understanding of the contours of the field, its interventions, and how scholars "do" Latina/a Studies. The course will also engage "keywords" in the field such as race, ethnicity, transnationalism, and tropicalization in order cultivate and complicate a Latina/a Studies vocabulary.
